Building cross-section with four elevator shafts, the cars at their floors and passengers queued at the landings, fed by a small floor-versus-time trace of the last minute, from a small dispatch simulation.

What I did

With one teammate I wrote a building and elevator simulator from scratch in Rust during a hackathon week. Every car runs cascaded PID control: a height loop sets the target speed and a speed loop sets the change in motor current, with anti-windup and a rate limit, updated at a fixed rate. The motor is a kinematic model interpolated from a datasheet-style table, and passengers are generated from hourly traffic data.

I started a small neuroevolution loop for dispatch; it never learned anything useful. It won first place at Boğaziçi AI UpForAChallenge.
